Confession, although the least appreciated or frequented Sacrament by the majority of the Baptized is the surest sign of piety in the life of a faithful Catholic. It is by means of this sacrament that we are forgiven of the sins we commit after baptism, might grow in virtue, and be restored of the mortal sins that cut off within us the life of grace. Each of us falls short of the love which is due to God, and the confessional is not something to be feared, but loved! It is there that we can be washed clean, renewed, and forgiven. The greatest saints, when growing in holiness on earth, did not practice confession less frequently, but rather more! Pope St. John Paul II and St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta were among those saints known for going to confession every week. Here we try and offer you many opportunities to avail yourself of the sacrament, and father is always ready to receive you outside of the assigned times as well.

As Catholics we profess that the sacrament of penance was instituted by Christ on Easter Sunday night, when He told the Apostles: "Receive the Holy Spirit. For those whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven; for those whose sins you retain, they are retained" (John 20:22-23). The Catholic Church interprets these words to imply that Christ conferred on the Apostles and their successors not merely the right to declare that a person's sins are forgiven but also the power of forgiving in Christ's name those who are judged worthy of remission and of withholding absolution for those who are not disposed to be absolved.

La confesión, aunque sea el sacramento menos apreciado o frecuentado por la mayoría de los bautizados es el signo más seguro de piedad en la vida de un fiel católico. Es por medio de este sacramento que somos perdonados de los pecados que cometemos después del bautismo, que podemos crecer en la virtud y ser restaurados de los pecados mortales que cortaron en nosotros la vida de la gracia. ¡Cada uno de nosotros falla a alcanzar el amor que se debe a Dios, y el confesionario no es algo para temer, sino para amar! Es allí donde podemos ser lavados limpios, renovados y perdonados. Los más grandes santos, al crecer en santidad en la tierra, no practicaron la confesión con menos frecuencia, ¡sino con más frecuencia! El Papa San Juan Pablo II y Santa Madre Teresa de Calcuta estaban entre esos santos conocidos por confesarse cada semana. Aquí en nuestra parroquia tratamos de ofrecerle muchas oportunidades para aprovechar el sacramento, y el padre siempre está listo para recibirlo también fuera de los horarios asignados.

 Como católicos profesamos que el sacramento de la penitencia fue instituido por Cristo en la noche del Domingo de Resurrección, cuando les dijo a los Apóstoles: "Reciben el Espíritu Santo. A quienes perdonen los pecados, les quedan perdonados; a quienes se los retengan, les quedan retenido" (Juan 20:22-23). La Iglesia Católica interpreta estas palabras en el sentido de que Cristo confirió a los Apóstoles y a sus sucesores no sólo el derecho de declarar perdonados los pecados de una persona, sino también el poder de perdonar en el nombre de Cristo a aquellos que son juzgados dignos de remisión y de retener la absolución por los que no están dispuestos a ser absueltos.
